As an American in the 21st Century, Jesus does not immediately strike us as controversial. In 2000 years, we’ve have never discovered Jesus secret love-child, heard of a racially charged hate speech, or learned of his secret financial scandal. Yet, from the perspective of a first century religious Jew, Jesus made some shocking statements. Jesus said I have not come to bring peace but a sword. Jesus said to look at a woman lustfully is to commit adultery in your heart. Jesus said Jesus said I am Lord of the Sabbath. Jesus said I am greater than the temple. Jesus said if you have seen me you have seen God the Father. Jesus said before Abraham was born I existed. Jesus said if you don’t believe in me you will die in your sin. And Jesus said, just because you call me Lord, doesn’t mean that you truly know me as Lord. Read more.
